  pretty sweet.

  ozzy osbourne was asked for spare changewhile walking down the street in los angeles.

  after searching his pockets and find nothing but a gold necklace worth approximately $4,600, he gave it to the homeless man.. from stuff.co.nz:.

  when in field service, was there any stupid rules that had to be followed?

  i was reading the topic on sisters having to sit in the backseat even if it was their car.

  made me think of a few rules i was subjected to.

  one was we were not allowed to have a radio on.

  OMG I remember one elder who had this fanatic way of thinking. (Mike P)

  he would create things like the saying NBM which meant "no break morning". In other words we would work 9 - 12 without stopping, he thought

  that this was a cute way of making service more enjoyable for the kids .

  One Saturday in July my wife, two kids ( 8 and 4) me this elder, his wife, and two of his kids went out in our minivan. Suddenly he announces that this is a NBM, because he and his wife were aux. pioneering that month. My kids were alright for about 30 minutes until the question "can we stop and get something to drink" was asked. I dealt with it until 10:30, by then the temp was getting close to 90, and my boys, and his had their ties on,

  NO BREAK TODAY, (NBM) he said, sounding like a younger version of the soup nazi from Seinfeld.

  Well I drove past the donut shop and turned in, my boys were sooo happy that they could take a break, yet this elder and his wife suddenly got silent. He turned to me and said, " I thought we decided that we were not taking a break this morning" I said that YOU decided that. My kids need to stop for a while because of the heat, and the four of us went into the air conditioned shop .

  This nut and his family wouldn't budge, they sat out in the car waiting, trying to make us feel guilty for taking a break from FS. When we returned, my kids were in a better mood, but his family was hot, sweaty, and he was mad that we dared to disobey his decision to keep going all morning.

  That was one of the first times I thought that these people were a tad crazy.Taking care of my family was way more important to me than making sure that he got his time in that hot/humid July day.

  How many of the woman 'sisters' had to sit in the back seat while in FS

  i was wondering how many of the sisters on this board had to sit in the back seat while in service.

  when i was single i almost always used my car and unlike most of the sister who turned over their cars to the brothers to drive and would then take the back seat in their own car i never did.

  so i did not have a problem with this being single.

  An elder I knew once stated his view of a womens role as a jw :

  "all they need is to be kept barefoot and pregnant ".

  Funny how today, his wife has problems, and his adult children are both df'ed and have nothing to do with him.

  Elder who conducted second school cannot read

  i tied in to the meeting tuesday night and i was blown away that the elder who they had conduct the second school is one who cannot read well at all.

  not that i have any room to talk as i cannot spell to save my life, but i know that and i would never put myself in a place to counsel ones about bible reading and such.

  in fact i have not applied for jobs and such because i know i have a handicap with my spelling.. i was so blown away that they use this elder like they do.

  my wife is a speech pathologist, and I have noticed over the years that the ability to read and speak correctly, and clearly is not an

  indication of a persons intelligence at all. Some just do not have the anatomy, or clear brain-pathways to speak or form words clearly.

  I understand the point of the above comments, and agree that using someone who cannot read at all is a poor choice for leading the second school.

  And not using capable women to help is really archaic, (did I spell that right)?

  Not making plans for the future, as in Nowhere Man?

  i understand jehovah's witnesses are always told that "the time left is reduced" and armageddon is "just around the corner".

  i understand that so many people have put off dental work, or medical assistance of other kinds, because of this.

  i don't mean to offend anyone here.

  excellent post, it is neat to listen to this song now and think of the witnesses !

  Many people I know / knew had this mentality, and now that they are getting older two things are happening:

  1), they are clinging to the "end of this system is soon" chant. Probably to drown out the sound of reality.

  2), they realize deep down that they made a mistake wrapping their lives around a false belief and are trying to make their lives a little better.

  one that is touched by the tragedy.

  Frowning on education and its potential effect

  here and in other websites (such as jwfacts) i learned that the wt frowns on higher education but is also aware that it needs trained staff.

  i also learned that at some point they weren't as tight on learning more skills because they found that the rank and file witness had trouble finding a job that would let him do for a more decent living.

  well, i wonder what happens in poorer countries, where salaries are much lower, jobs much more scarce, and where an university degree is still a huge advantage but no guarantee of anything.

  there was a post made earlier, that got me thinking about this.. it seemed that when i was a witness if something bad happened to me the usual reply was, 'well you must be serving god right, satan is making.

  life harder for you.

  he is trying to break your integrity.

  life harder for you. He is trying to break your integrity. Keep your chin up, we're praying for you.

  If something good happened, people would nod and smile, one or two hardliners would say that perhaps I need to focus more on spiritual matters.

  So your damned if you do, damned if you dont.

  Even now after almost two years of leaving, i still get pangs of this behavior that bubble up once in a while.

  it seems like a thought process that makes a person feel unworthy unless things are going poorly, then you can be happy.
